Smok Pen Juice Fountain Review
And that means you need it a SOK Pen? We’ve heard of it, we’ve used it. But do we realize why it’s great? Well, to start with, the SOK Pen does not have any screen. So what do we have to worry about then?
The SOK Pen has a built in screen that is protected by a scratch-resistant cover, but it still has no back light. If you’re deploying it in the dark (ideal for writing), having less back light won’t be too large an issue for you. If you are just using it as a typical wet pen, having less screen can pose a problem. There are other pens on the market that have back lights, so we’ll need to see on that certain.
An attribute we found pretty cool was the airflow system. The SOK Pen includes a fan which can be switched on with the tap of a button. This clever ventilation system allows the pen to draw warm, dry air through the pen’s nib and in to the reservoir which hold your liquid flavours. Cool, but does this airflow system work? It works well, and in fact, we discovered that it improved the flavour of our Smok Vaporizers.
It’s all well and good, if your airflow is working, but think about when it is not? Well, we pointed out that with some refills, the flavour became a little less intense. It didn’t get very good or worse, but it wasn’t quite as rich or creamy since it have been with the airflow activated pen. The refilling seemed to affect the consistency of the flavour, rather than the intensity. Maybe the airflow wasn’t working so well!
After even more research, we discovered that this problem could possibly be fixed by switching the airflow on or off. To do this, you press and hold the “reset” button on the bottom of the SOK Pen. Then click the “change” button. This will turn off the fan and activate the cooling mechanism. You may also select “pull the plug on micro USB” which will turn off the pen but let the e-liquid circulate.
This appears to be an issue affecting a number of the older pens. A quick explore Google returned this one, but it was only on the list of last year’s models. The newer pens seem to be using the new micro usb port, but the problem is that they are using a lower transfer rate. Transfer rates are measured in MB/s, or million bits/sec. So if you want to get an extremely high quality e-liquid flavour, it may be best to buy a pen that runs on the higher transfer rate, like the Vapro Fire Wire.
This can be the problem with older pens – the micro usb doesn’t release until it really is fully saturated with e-liquid, therefore the battery life is very short. By turning off the fan, switching off the fire button and turning off the SOK Pen, we were able to get more juice in to Puff Bar the bottle without draining the reservoir. It certainly made an enormous difference when filling the tank! In the end, we changed to a Smok Vaporizer instead. Although it isn’t as good performing, and we didn’t like needing to continually replace the e-liquid, for the purposes this was enough!
